Deja Vu
On Sunday afternoon, October 19th 2008, my wife Joan and I were presenting a sound therapy presentation at a metaphysical group in Florence, Alabama (USA). My main focus, as usual, was on the Peruvian whistling vessels, which produce high-frequency sounds and harmonics that seem to often produce profound altered states of consciousness (descriptions frequently consisting of feelings of peace, happiness, centeredness, with accounts also of visions, voices, a presence, out-of-body travel, chakra centers being opened, etc.).
Well, unbeknownst to this group I had brought along a tape of an interview I had done last year with Tony Peake for Alternate Perceptions magazine (http://www.mysterious-america.net). I was just going to play a very interesting portion of the tape, as I wanted to touch upon the importance of his thoughts on the activity of the non-dominant right hemisphere and how I felt that these whistles might be stimulating that area of the brain. Before I had an opportunity to detour from my normally standard presentation on the whistling vessels, we took a ten minute break. It was during this brief break that this young 19-year-old man named Jake shared with the lady who is over this group a very unusual Deja Vu experience that he had had during the group's monthly meeting two months prior when Sandy Nichols, a Tennessee "abductee" and "ghost hunter" was doing a presentation. When the meeting started back up, Pat insisted that Jake share with the rest of us what he had just told her. He seemed reluctant and explained apologetically that what happened to him was off the subject of our presentation. He explained that it was about the point where Sandy was describing how during an abduction one of his testicles had been punctured, presumably for the removal of sperm, and Pat, the group head, interjected with a humorous type of remark. Suddenly Jake had a deja vu moment! He remembered seeing us, Sandy, Pat, my wife and myself, and some others, from a dream he had had some ten years earlier! I thought that this was pretty extraordinary, as I was about to play the tape with Tony wherein he had explained about how people with dejva vu episodes often foresee future events!
I thought this was quite an interesting coincidence. I'm seen in a deja vu dream from about ten years ago and when this young man shares this with the group I'm in the process of mentioning insightful new speculations on deja vu and playing a portion of Tony's tape.
I called Jake up soon afterwards and learned more. "It's such a funny thing because it was when Sandy was talking about them removing like his semen, you know, and I don't know why that was when it happened but it did. But he talked about that and then Amira (Pat) made some kind of joke with him about it and then as soon as they said it it was like this image just flashed on in my mind. It was the room. I remember seeing the room. The purple room and all of the stuff in it, and then I remembered seeing Amira's face and Sandy's face, and I remembered seeing you and your wife..."
Jake has also had those incidents in which he perceives time around him slowing down. "It's just been kind of random like I'll be at work, or I'll just be at home, or I'll be out and about somewhere," he explained. Seemingly around his visual field he'll see a bluish-green color, which "just goes off like a strobe sort of, and then it's like everything around me kind of slows down. Like cars seem to be going slower. It's kind of silent. I don't really hear much. But cars move slower and it's like people start walking slower. It doesn't really last very long, but it's the weirdest feeling because I feel like time itself has slowed down but I still feel like I can move at normal speed though. Then it's like the light goes off again around my vision and then everything is back to normal."
He's also had a lot of instances ("I guess you'd call them visions," he said) of seeing himself "in a different body, like I'm a different person, but I'm still myself." He also added that sometimes "it's like different periods of history, and I'm not always male either."
I asked Jake: "Have you ever had the feeling that you were in contact with this person, like in the present moment, like you were actually in touch with your other self somewhere?"
Jake replied: "Ah yes! I've had feelings like that. I've had feelings or it feels like I'm in two bodies at once..." "I can feel my body existing here in Alabama and I can feel what's around me in my environment, but sometimes it feels like I'm also somewhere else. Like I'm being pulled somewhere else. I can feel that body interacting with it's environment."
Jake also recalled seeing the spirit of an "elderly black woman" who had died in a house that they came to live in later. Apparently his brother and sister had also caught a glimpse of her.
