Rainbows

By Sandy Nichols

I've seen a few rainbows in this simple life of mine,
And when the sun did shine I swear I saw those pots of gold,
But every time when I got close
Those skies returned to gray,
And the rain did fall upon my world
And break my heart again.

But late at night as I lay in bed,
And dream the thoughts I had,
When forever more I can see,
The splendid colors of the sky.
