Alpha and Omega - Part 7

By Marie Ellen Pacha

Eve was hungry, and Adam was no where to be found. She knew that she was supposed to wait for him; God had told her that Adam was to prepare her food.

She waited for a while, and her hunger grew. "What harm could it do," she thought. "I know where the food is. I know how it tastes. And God promised no harm would come to me by eating." And she went to the table and sat. Since the first days of her existence here she had learned how Adam requested certain dishes, and she knew what she preferred. She pressed those buttons on the console and was rewarded with a plate of her favorite dish.

She ate quickly, feeling a slight sense of guilt at disobeying God. And then she returned to their living area.

Not long after Adam returned. He was hungry now, but as always he waited for God to direct him to the dining area.

"Dinner time, my children," He didn't have to wait long. Eve was not really hungry but there would be more of her favorite food if she went along. And she saw no reason to tell God and Adam that she had broken the rules.

They moved back to the dining area, and Adam selected their meal. Eve felt unusually full the rest of that evening, and another strange urge was beginning to creep into her consciousness. She didn't know how to describe it, but she was not satisfied. Her sleep that night, normally undisturbed was restless.

God had realized that Eve did not have the focus or knowledge necessary to help with the tasks he assigned to Adam, and she was usually content to sit and read one of the many books available. They weren't really books, but recordings that played out on the large screen on one wall of the living area. Today's lesson was human anatomy, and her interest focused as she realized that it was explaining the differences between her body and Adam's.

God did not realize for how short a period Eve could retain her focus. And the task he had set for Adam was critical. Once again her meal was delayed and she became hungry. She had not been penalized the previous day, and she saw no reason to deprive herself again today.

Again she went and ate.

And again Adam returned and they ate once again together. And the urges that had disturbed her sleep the previous night intensified, and increased her restlessness.

The next morning God informed them that he would be occupied for much of the day, and that they would need to follow their routine. But Eve's routine had changed. Earlier now than previously her hunger set in, and her desire for the food she preferred. She urged Adam to join her; finally convincing him that no harm could possibly befall them.

He succumbed to her encouragement, and the both went and had a snack before their regular meal. They returned to their living quarters and watched the lesson for the day. It was a continuation of the program on anatomy, but it contained scenes of human procreation and child birth.

And that night both of them were bothered by dreams. Eve's were more intense, and she found herself awake and studying Adam's nude body next to hers. She reached out and gently touched him, and watched as his body unconsciously reacted. He brushed her hand away as he slept, and rolled over away from her, but her touch intercepted his dreams.

Eventually sleep overtook Eve too, and she joined him in slumber.
