Alpha and Omega - Part 4
By Marie Ellen Pacha
Did the people that planned our facility realize exactly what they were doing when they provided us with records of DNA from every human being alive at the time? Or was it just a fluke?
I wonder now if they would approve of how we use that information. Not only do we procreate based on genetic factors, but for the interests of all we extinguish the lives of those who can no longer benefit our society. In our case it is not a moral or ethical choice. It is a matter of survival.
It is fortunate that physical handicaps have rarely been severe enough to necessitate termination of life. And our elderly are usually moved to a teaching role when they are not capable of performing the physical tasks they might have once held. But once they become a burden, our society dictates their lives must end.
When Adam and Eve first arrived they were evaluated, studied and investigated. It was not only important to know what they could add to our new civilization, we needed to know how they had found us, and how they had come to be.
Of course our scientists did every test available to them. Adam had a genetic codex which linked him to a family by the name of Trump, and appeared to have a relatively untapped intellect. He learned quickly and voraciously. Eve's genetic code was linked to a name from the 20th century. Hilton was her surname. Research indicated both names were among the members of the wealthy and elite in early 21st century society. But the abilities and potentials of either seemed of no real use to our society. Eve's IQ was only average, but more importantly her motivation for anything but pleasure seemed strangely absent.
She was beautiful however; statuesque and blond, even while pregnant she was a delight to gaze upon. Not a male among us failed to be aroused when in her presence. And she had a simplicity about her, which was in itself disarming. One could not have an in depth discussion with her, about anything. She was not philosophical and she never developed an interest in anything but herself, and her needs and wants. Before Armageddon people had pets, which they stroked and pampered, that was Eve. Since Armageddon pets have become a luxury we cannot afford.
Determining their genetic code was easy. Learning their origins was not. Both of them claimed to have been "born" in a place called Eden; neither had any memories of themselves as children. Neither could recall any caregivers, but both had a very strong recollection of the voice of a being they called god.
As Adam became integrated into our world and studied and learned, his interest in Eve waned. In spite of the fact that she appeared to be a useless member of society it was decided to let her live; at least for the time being. We would study her, and wait for the birth of her child. Perhaps in time she and Adam would remember something that might be of use to us.
Perhaps.
