Alpha and Omega - Part 18

As I have mentioned often in my notes population control in our society is an issue of primary importance. There are two reasons for that. The first is fairly obvious. Our resources are limited. While it has become apparent in the last couple of decades that we may be nearing a time where survival is again viable on the surface of the planet there are still many unknowns and an uncontrolled population surge in our current confines could place all of us at risk. But secondly, we need a certain number of residents to fulfill certain duties here.

In spite of our careful monitoring and attempts to regulate procreation and population a situation has been steadily alarming us. Our population is beginning to decline. It was inevitable that members of our society die as they aged, but births have also declined. A conservative estimate is that at the present rate of decline, in another 50 years we will not have enough people to staff necessary positions to ensure survival.

It is strange but this alarm was sounded by our Sociologist and not by our Medical team. A meeting has been called for later today to discuss this concern and how we might counteract it.
