Alpha and Omega - Part 17

We have technology now that we could allow to change us in unique ways. We are capable of implanting artificial eyes and other organs and we have used them to save the lives of valued members of our society. We have unlocked the remaining links of our genetic code, and we have the ability to clone any species we chose. Our scientists even inform us that they believe it is possible to create new species, by combining two that currently exist.

And of course we know the science necessary to use stem cells for a number of procedures that would also lengthen life expectancies and alleviate some infirmities. We continue research in those areas and have withheld judgment on the use of most. The general consensus is that in using those techniques to enhance our lives we are stepping over a boundary and attempting to play God. We have not been able to answer all the moral and ethical questions that have arisen to the satisfaction of a majority in order to permit their implementation.

We choose at the present not to risk our humanity in doing so.
