The Incorporation of Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Physiology in Researching the UFO/Alien Phenomenon
By Sandy Nichols
2008
According to Webster Comprehensive Dictionary, International Edition, the word arrogant means...Unduly or excessively proud; overbearing; haughty. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the United States government closed down the US Patent Office. It was deemed that all things that could be invented had been invented. The supposedly learned men who made this decision, believed that the technology of the day was as far advanced as technology could be. With the closing of the patent office, these men in essence determined that the human mind was only capable of understanding so much, and in effect, stated that the learning and creative capacity of the human mind had reached a finite point. As history has shown, this arrogant thought process proved to be a very premature and unwise decision.
In modern time, with political correctness at the forefront of our society, it would seem right to assume that mistakes are made on an occasional basis with the results that no great harm has come from these mistakes, but this has not proven to be the case. The flawed thought process of man is not a 20th century phenomenon, but extends back thousands of years to a time when man first began stating things as fact. With the creation of religious beliefs, this thought process took on a deeper and more ominous tone. Religious leaders assumed the leadership role over entire nations. Their divine words were thought to be heavenly inspired by the gods and not to be questioned. Basically every aspect of human life was strictly controlled by the dictates of the gods and questioning such dictates, more often than not, would result in death. These religious beliefs were so strong that wars were fought with other nations of differing religious beliefs. This sometimes resulted in total genocide of the populace of the losing nation.
With the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus, a new religious belief was born. This new religious belief had its roots in an old thought process, but was supposed to usher in an era of love and forgiveness. Gone was the way of the sword. The profound words of Jesus were to be used as a pathway we were to walk to draw nearer to the one true God.
In the years subsequent to the life of Jesus, the apostles were still fervent Jews. They still followed the strict observance of Jewish law but at the same time ventured forth and proclaimed the good news of Jesus. This was unacceptable to the Jewish hierarchy. A compromise was reached to allow the followers of Jesus to continue to worship in the temple. At the same time there was much dissension among the followers of Jesus. These followers were basically split into two different factions, the Orthodox and the Gnostic. This dissension was the result of two different interpretations of Jesus's teachings. After many years of fighting amongst themselves, the Orthodox teaching won out and became the mainstay of what we now consider Christian beliefs. There are many people today (myself included), who believe there should have been an inclusion of the Gnostic beliefs into the Bible. They point out that there are other books written by some of the lesser know apostles that should have been included in the Bible. These books are from James, Mary Magdalene, Phillip and others. The exclusion of these other books has resulted in an incomplete understanding of the teachings of Jesus and a skewed belief system.
At the same time this infighting was occurring, there was another threat to the followers of Jesus. The Roman Empire still had military and political control over the Jewish lands. Jewish hatred for the Romans continued, and in later years, Roman dictators had early Christians put to death. Proclaiming that God was God, and not the Roman dictator, fueled the hatred and the death for many early Christians. Standing steadfast in their beliefs they became synonymous with martyrdom.
During the reign of the Roman emperor Constantine (312-337AD), Christianity took on the legitimacy of true faith. After seeing a vision of a burning cross, Constantine converted to Christianity. Constantine, under the banner of the cross, conquered the eastern empire and united the fragmented Roman Empire east and west. It was during Constantine's reign that Christianity became the official state religion. Once again a war had to be fought in the name of God.
It was also during this time that the seat of Christianity was established in the form of the Roman Catholic Church. The basic beliefs of Christianity that we know today were established during the Nicene Council of 325 AD. With the home of Christianity firmly established in the Roman Empire, the strongest empire of its time, it was obvious that the Roman Catholic Church would grow in strength and power as well. The power of the church became all encompassing. It ruled with an iron fist over every Christian nation. And like the established religious rulers of the past, the Catholic Church controlled basically every aspect of human existence. The Roman Catholic Church created the Bible and decided which books of the Old and New Testament would be included. It fought a brutal war against the Muslims for control of the Holy Land and brought about the infamous inquisition where thousands of people were tortured and put to death for going against the faith. The church forbade the common folks from possessing or owning the Bible under penalty of death and utterly devastated ancient cultures in the New World. With this one action alone, hundreds and thousands of years of history were lost forever. The church also forbade certain new beliefs in the sciences if they contradicted church doctrine. Once again the threat of death became a determining factor in these and most all other human beliefs.
The might and rule of the Roman Catholic Church was lessened in the 15th century with the Protestant Reformation. Renegade Catholic leaders in Europe began to challenge the absolute control of the Catholic Church and eventually broke away and formed new religious denominations. The invention of the printing press around this time enabled the common folks to acquire a Bible. The commoners then had the opportunity to use their own free will in determining what they should believe and how they should live their lives. Or so it should have been.
In reality the masses were still under the influence of the religious leaders. Though a few certain beliefs changed in the new Protestant denominations, the basic beliefs set forth by the Roman Catholic Church were still in place. The 1200 years of indoctrination by the Roman Catholic Church was hard to shake, especially considering the consequences of damnation and burning for an eternity in the fires of Hell for questioning church doctrines. Remember that it was believed that the religious leaders had a direct line to God and were speaking for Him when it came to religious matters. To question church leaders was to question God Himself. This mindset had been established thousands of years before with the ancient Hebrews and other ancient religious people and their gods.
Now it may be thought that the above cannot relate to the Extraterrestrial Experience and other related phenomena, but it does in every aspect. Our religious beliefs are the basic premise by which we live our lives. And just like the people who broke away from the Roman Catholic Church, we today still live our lives and believe certain things based in part on this belief system. Church doctrine teaches that the human race is special, and that we are so unique in this universe that God chose His plan of salvation just for us. Since we are so special and unique, and since Jesus is the Son of God who is the Creator of all life and God chose us, then our religious beliefs automatically exclude the notion that God could have created any other intelligent human type life.
The reasoning behind this was simple. The basic tenant of Christian beliefs is one God, one Jesus and one Spirit. We accept this belief on blind faith. This comes from that ancient culture who believed they were in contact with "The Almighty Creator" of everything. So human knowledge and understanding of how life is and was/is created is based solely on what we know, understand and believe. We give God credit for being able to create and/or destroy anything. His powers are endless, but we limit his creative power for intelligent life and for salvation to us alone. Combine this with the religious belief that we are so unique and special in this universe, and then it is believed that God would only send His Son one time to those He created. Religious beliefs cannot/will not accept the possibility that God could do this same scenario on some other planet. It is believed that by doing this, it would somehow negate our special and unique relationship with God.
Another point of reasoning is based on the scientific knowledge and understanding that we possess at this time in human history. Basically there are only two things which science will not readily dispute as being true without it having to be tested in a lab to prove its existence. One is a belief in an almighty creator (God), and the other is the existence of human emotions. For a scientist to come out and state that there is absolutely no proof that God exists, would undoubtedly bring about the wrath and ire of every God believing soul on earth. Though the scientific community might agree with him in private, his career at any credible institution would be over. No institution would want to face the backlash that would occur from the religious furor that such a statement would provoke.
Human emotions exist. No scientist would deny this. They understand the mechanics of how and where emotions are formed and transmitted. They can trace the electrical pathways on which they travel through the human body. But since emotions are more psychological than physical, then the full understanding of emotions is subjective at best. In other words, the way emotions affect one person may be totally different than the way they affect someone else.
The problem with science as it relates to the ET experience is that they state they have yet to examine an ET or a UFO in the lab. Science will only believe those things that they can detect or prove with their 5 senses. The status quo majority of the human population is the exact same way. The human race puts a great deal of trust in the scientific community to answer questions. If science says it is not real or does not exist, then the status quo basically accepts this without question. This line of reasoning is not all that much different from a religious standpoint. We put our faith in those that say they have the answers. We tend to revere those people in the scientific and religious fields as having some secret knowledge and understanding. This is usually brought about by those with impressive academic credentials or someone that possesses a very charismatic and/or charming personality.
Science leads us to believe that science conducted in a lab and verified is an exact science. Science is very adept at stating something as fact once it has been tested in the lab. Yet as human understanding and knowledge increase, scientist have to constantly reevaluate what they have already learned because it is not exactly what they thought it was in the first place. Science at one time stated that the "atom" was the smallest particle in existence. Now they state that quarks and neutrons are smaller.
Webster's dictionary's definition for "exact" is this...Perfect conformed to a standard; nicely adjusted; strictly accurate or correct.
For the word "fact" the definition is...Any statement strictly true; truth; reality.
A reevaluation of something stated as exact or fact is not an exact science.
This brings us to why science refuses to believe in the existence of ET's and/or UFOs. First of all ET's and genuine ET crafts go hand in hand. A solid metal type craft flying through the sky either has to be controlled from inside the craft or by remote control. There are thousands of reports from credible eyewitnesses who have reported UFOs. Many of these reports go further and state that the witnesses saw occupants either debarking from the UFO after it had landed, noticed occupants inside the UFO through a window on the UFO or saw UFO occupants standing around the craft as it rested on the ground. In these last reports, a few seconds or minutes after being seen by humans, the occupants scurried back inside the UFO and then it took off and flew away at an incredible speed.
It also must not be forgotten that UFOs have left marks on the ground. When a UFO lands on the ground and leaves some type of mark, then it is classified as a "Trace Landing Sight." These marks can range from burnt ground, grass, trees, etc, residual residue such as low level radiation or an impression in the ground such as what would be made from landing gear on the underside of the craft.
When any type of evidence is presented to science to be examined, scientists almost always conclude that this evidence could have been created by either man, animal or by nature. These examinations are for the most part cursory because to take a hard in-depth look at the evidence would bring ridicule from other scientists. So basically the problem is this. If the evidence to be examined falls into a category that is not believed in, in the first place, then why bother doing the examination?
The majority in the religious community take a much different approach to any evidence that is presented pertaining to UFOs, ET's or almost any other subject matter that they deem to be paranormal. This view is straightforward and nonnegotiable. Their view is based strictly on biblical interpretation...it is evil and of the "Devil." UFOs, ET's and other aspects of the paranormal are illusions of the devil and his cohorts to confuse the human race. In this confusion the devil can have a disastrous influence on human life causing the person to sin and to lose contact with God and begin the journey to hell. Even believing that such things exist can be a sin. The noted TV preacher Pat Robertson stated publicly "that anyone who believes in UFOs and Aliens should be stone to death as in the book of Deuteronomy." Now this on the surface coming from one TV preacher may not be construed as being that significant, but one must take into account the number of followers that Pat Robertson's has. Also let's not forget the untold number of other preachers that espouse the same line of thought that UFOs and ET's are the result of the devil's work, and then the believers grow exponentially.
To make matters worse for the UFO/ET believers, there are those people (including myself), who believe that we/they have been abducted. The religious people look upon this is a very grave matter. Anything that delves into the paranormal is automatically labeled occult. To dabble into the occult opens a doorway that allows the devil to enter our lives. Even the practice of meditation is considered to be occult by many preachers. To claim that we have been abducted is to admit that our lives and actions are influenced by the devil. Once again these types of religious beliefs are based on scriptural interpretations.
If a person were to ask an abductee what he or she believed is the real reason behind the abductions and who are the abductors themselves, a variety of answers would be given. (It must be noted that the abduction experience is not limited to the United States, but is a worldwide phenomenon). Some would state that the abductors are persons in government working covertly for unknown reasons on select numbers of the population. Others would say that the abductors are ET-type beings working covertly with governments for an exchange of advanced ET technology. Still others might relate that the abductors are ET-type beings doing genetic experiments on a select number of the population for the purpose of an ET-type take over or control of the population. Some would state that the abductors are dimensional-type beings abducting people for unknown reasons. Others feel that the abductors are "us in the future" coming back to this time to either fix a problem that was begun here or to prevent a problem from occurring if the root cause of the problem was not fixed in this time. Some people espouse that the abductors are ET-type beings, doing genetic and emotional experiments on humans for the purpose of instilling long dormant or lost emotions back into their species. Since an ET species is so advanced and exists mainly on technology to survive, they have come to realize that an intelligent species cannot survive without a cohesive mix of technology and emotions to control the technology.
There are two other lines of thoughts that touch on the anthropological aspects of the UFO/ET experience. One of these lines of thought has been espoused by a very well known gentleman named Zechariah Stitchin in a series of highly regard books. Mr. Stitchin's book's state that a twelfth planet in our solar system called "Nibru" has an advanced civilization. Nibru has an orbital path through the solar system that brings it very close to the earth every 3,000 years. It was during a previous 3,000-year cycle that this advanced civilization came to earth and genetically altered the existing primitive life forms for the purpose of mining gold. This gold was needed for the stabilization of the atmosphere on Nibru. After a period of cycles when enough gold was mined, the inhabitants of Nibru left and never returned, or are waiting for the next cycle to return. The genetically altered life forms then progressed through an accelerated evolutionary cycle and developed into what is now known as modern man. A great number of Mr. Stitchin's theories are based on extensive research he has done on the Summerian culture of 6,000 years ago. Other parts of his research have come from the history of ancient South American and Middle American cultures. Mr. Stitchin and other noted researchers present strong evidence to indicate that the Mesopotamian region was a hotbed of alien interaction with humans and pre-humans dating back at least 6,000 years and probably further back in time than that.
Another line of thought is based on abductee's reports of contact with "hybrids." Hybrids are basically a new species created by the ET's when cross breeding between ET's and humans occur. This crossbreeding is believed by some to be a way of instilling emotions back into the ET species. The ET's retain their advanced mental prowess, but at the same time regain emotions they need from humans. Even though the hybrids would not be considered a full blown, genetic original ET by crossbreeding with humans, the purpose of the crossbreeding would be a way to ensure the survival of the ET species. It must be noted that there is a consensus among most researchers and abductees that more than one ET species is visiting and interacting with humans. Not all ET species it seems though are engaged in the crossbreeding procedures.
Abductions are considered bogus by mainstream science and the status quo beliefs of the majority of the population. Human understanding and knowledge is based on what we think we know at this point in time. This idea of genetic crossbreeding between ET's and humans is considered ludicrous at best. The same line of thinking also applies to the genetic altering of existing life forms on earth by ET's thousands of years ago. Even though science has been searching for the missing link for years, the thought of ET's being responsible for the missing link is just too impossible for science to believe. This missing link theory is based on the fact that the genetic difference and separation between monkeys and humans is the result of only three chromosomes. Every other chromosome beside these three is exactly the same.
There are other scientific reasons why scientist, psychiatrists and psychologists claim abductions are not real. These reasons are vary according to which of these professional you ask. Scientists say there is no verifiable proof. They want something in the lab to test before they change their minds. Psychiatrists and psychologists say that the abductions fall into normal status quo categories. Abduction claims are written off as trauma in a person's life, more often than not, due to some form of sexual abuse perpetrated on the person when they were a child. The ET-type beings that are reported are really just illusions created by the mind to mask the abuser's identity and to suppress the experience. Others claim that the reported paralysis that abductees experience during abductions is in fact the time between deep sleep and first awakening. In this state, the abductee is actually dreaming that he is seeing ET-type beings and has been abducted. Others claim that an abductee is in fact a delusional, psychotic or a pathological liar looking for attention.
Skeptics and debunkers use to vehemently attack any person's credibility who reported a UFO sighting and especially someone who claimed abductions. For years and years most of the people who made reports came from the middle to lower end of the social ladder. No upper class businessperson would dare risk verbal attack for fear of a soiled reputation. The middle and lower tier were made out to be uneducated and trailer park trash type of individuals. This has changed somewhat over the past few years. Bashing the credibility of the person is still the norm, but more and more upper tier people are reporting or endorsing the UFO/ET phenomenon, consequently, a new approach had to be introduced.
The cover story for the March 2000 issue of Life Magazine was about UFOs and Aliens. On the front cover it stated "Why do we believe?" The front cover suggested an unbiased report of the subject, but the article was UFO/Alien bashing from the git-go. I, along with some of my friends, was interviewed for this article. The writer used only the first name of my friends, but since I am public about this subject matter, she used my entire name. This was fine with me. What I did have a problem with, though, was the way she portrayed myself and my friends and anyone in the article that endorsed the UFO/ET phenomenon. Since I come from a fairly well known and highly respected business family, the writer could not place me in their lower tier of the social ladder. I have an education and made a fairly decent living in the business world. Instead she attacked what I had accomplished in life and portrayed me as a spoiled, rich kid with nothing better to do than to fantasize about UFOs and Aliens. In going public with my abduction experiences I was well aware that at times I would be attacked for my beliefs. I am not one to turn the other cheek when attacked. So, in response, I wrote a 14-page rebuttal to the Life Magazine article. I called upon my friends and others with similar beliefs as myself, and was able to spread my rebuttal far and wide over the Internet. The response was overwhelming. I was interviewed on many radio programs and a couple of TV shows, and I received over 600 e-mails in support of my rebuttal and beliefs from around the world.
For many UFO/ET believers, the Life Magazine article came as a surprise, but too others it was just status quo reporting on a sensitive subject matter. The status quo mentality is that UFO/ET's are not real and that people who report such things are not credible. This idea has been drummed into the human consciousness for years and years. If people cannot prove or detect something with their five known senses, then it doesn't exist plain and simple. It does not take a tremendous amount of effort to open one's mind and look at the possibility that humans cannot understand all the wonders of the universe. It does not take a tremendous amount of effort for one to recognize that there are many things that exist that cannot be simply written off to nonexistence because the status quo mentality refuses to believe in them.
It is not hard to imagine why the religious community strictly and vehemently opposes such beliefs as genetic manipulation by ET's or present day crossbreeding. To do so would totally undermine the religious belief of a creator God. Such ideas would fly in the face of the very religious foundations that humans live their lives by, no matter what religious denomination or religious ideology there is or has ever been. This would also undermine our concept that humans are special and unique in this universe, and that God chose to create only us and no other intelligent life. To believe or even to suggest that modern man was the genetically altered creation of an ET species is unthinkable.
Many people ask why governments and others do not acknowledge the existence of an intelligent ET species that has interacted with humans. There are a few reasons. One is that steadfast religious beliefs would fall quickly by the wayside. Humans would be faced with having to accept brand new beliefs in regard to God: who He is and what He is. We would find ourselves in the ego shattering position that the universe was not created just for humans. We would have to readjust our beliefs that other intelligent species could be just as unique and special as we are. We would have to accept the fact that ET's did have a tremendous bearing on our religious beliefs and our existence. We would be forced to question every religious belief that we had ever been taught and look with suspicion at those who taught us to believe this erroneous way. We would be forced to question the motive behind such indoctrination. Was it for control and power over the people? Was it because the cultures of our past did not have the understanding and knowledge to realize that the ET's were in fact not God but just another intelligent species in a vast universe? Was it because the ET's themselves had an agenda for their own survival when they interacted with humans, and with their agenda, they perpetuated the mistaken belief that they were God in order to accomplish their agenda? Was it because the ET's saw a struggling planet with early life forms, and like us today, they experimented genetically on these life forms for a better understanding of life? If it is true that ET's did interact with humans at some point in early history, then all or a mix of all of the above situations could be true.
Another reason for denial relates to the business community and the almighty dollar. If the government were to admit that ET's exist, and this existence involves the use of much superior technology, then there might be the possibility that the economic structure would collapse. The world is dependent on the technology that we know and understand today to help us live our lives in the best way possible. We are very dependent on fossil fuels for an energy source. Nuclear power can be very harmful if safeguards are not strictly enforced for its use. Hydrogen is a very combustible fuel and can be highly dangerous. The burning of coal pollutes our environment. Steam and sail power are inefficient in our modern world. Solar power and other alternative forms of energy are not cost effective at the present time.
From an ET advanced civilization view, modern day humans live in an antiquated state. ET technology incorporates some form of anti-gravity device to power their crafts. Communications from the ET's to humans is accomplished mostly by nonverbal means. ET's are fairly well adept at reading human thoughts. This means that the ET's have a highly developed form of ESP. For reasons not understood, this psychic ability has a way to paralyze their human subjects. This psychic ability ensures almost a total psychical control over the victim without a struggle. Another advantage of this psychic control is the ability of the ET's to banish the experience into the subconscious area of our mind. Another trick used by ET's is the implantation of false memories into the conscious area of the mind. This is sometimes commonly referred to as "False Memory Syndrome."
When the abductee is able to cope with the abduction experience, then the real memories will gradually resurface into the conscious memory. With some abductees, hypnosis has been an excellent tool to bring forth more memories or a better recall of partially retrieved memories.
ET technology it seems can also change the vibrational rate of solid objects. This allows for solid objects to pass through other solid objects. It is not clear though what vibrational rate is changed...human or say doors or walls for example. Advanced ET technology allows their crafts to traverse between different dimensions. Some abductees have witnessed these dimensional doorways being opened and closed. The human status quo mentality for the most part will only accept three dimensions...back and forth...side to side...and up and down.
Advance ET technology also allows their crafts to traverse great distances between planets. Time and space are one in the same. For humans to drive from point A to point B, we travel the distance (space), going X miles-an-hour. It takes us an allotted amount of time to travel this distance (space) depending on how fast we travel. The ET's traverse this same distance (space) but in a vastly different way. The theory is that they bring point A and B closer together and therefore reduce the amount of time it takes to travel the distance. The technology to accomplish this is not understood by humans, but searching through UFO reports, one can read where eyewitnesses reported that a UFO was over here one second and over there in the next second.
Everything that humans have known throughout the ages is based on some sort of belief system. Our beliefs are rooted in an individual personal understanding and knowledge of what each of us knows at any given time. This understanding and knowledge has been passed down from one human to the next for thousands of years. What I have written here encompasses four major points that I feel must be debated to have a clearer understanding of the UFO/Alien Phenomenon.
In closing I would like to leave you with two statements. This one was part of sermon from a very open minded Christian minister...
"Listen, look, learn and read, but make up your own mind. Use the gift of free will you were born with to decide your truth, your beliefs."
The other is from the Sherlock Holmes novel "Sign of the Four"...
"Whenever you have eliminated the impossible, no matter what remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
